Genesis 18

And the LORD appeared to him in the plains of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day.

And he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men stood by him. And when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground and said, “My Lord, if now I have found favor in your sight, pass not away, I pray you, from your servant. Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet and rest yourselves under the tree; and I will fetch a morsel of bread and you comfort your hearts. After that, you may pass on, for therefore you have come to your servant.”

And they said, “Do so, as you have said.”

And Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah, and said, “Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth.”

And Abraham ran to the herd and fetched a calf, tender and good, and gave it to a young man, and he hastened to have it dressed. And he took butter and milk and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they ate.

And they said to him, “Where is Sarah your wife?”

And he said, “Behold, in the tent.”

10 And He said,

“I will certainly return to you according to the time of life; and behold, Sarah your wife will have a son.”

And Sarah heard it from the tent door, which was behind him. 11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age, and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. 12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I am worn out and old will I have pleasure, and my lord being old, also?”

13 And the LORD said to Abraham,

“Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Will I indeed bear a child, who, myself, have become so old’? 14 Is anything too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed, I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah will have a son.”

15 Then Sarah denied, saying, “I did not laugh,” for she was afraid. And He said,

“No, but you did laugh.”

16 And the men rose up from there, and looked toward Sodom; and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way. 17 And the LORD said,

“Will I hide from Abraham that thing which I do, 18 seeing that Abraham will surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed in him? 19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they will keep the way of the LORD  to do justice and judgment, that the LORD  may bring upon Abraham that which He has spoken of him.”

20 And the LORD said,

“Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous, 21 I will go down now and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which has come to Me; and if not, I will know.”

22 And the men turned their faces from there, and went toward Sodom; but Abraham stood yet before the LORD. 23 And Abraham drew near and said, “Will You also destroy the righteous with the wicked? 24 Perhaps there are fifty (50) righteous within the city; will You also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty (50) righteous that are therein? 25 That be far from You to do in this manner — to slay the righteous with the wicked; and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from You! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?”

26 And the LORD said,

“If I find in Sodom fifty (50) righteous within the city, then I will spare all of the place for their sakes.”

27 And Abraham answered and said, “Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak to the Lord, I, who am but dust and ashes. 28 Perhaps there will lack five of the fifty righteous; will You destroy all the city for lack of five?” And He said,

“If I find there forty and five (45), I will not destroy it.”

29 And he spoke to Him yet again and said, “Perhaps there will be forty (40) found there?” And He said,

“I will not do it for forty’s (40) sake.”

30 And he said to Him, “Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Perhaps there will thirty (30) be found there.” And He said,

“I will not do it if I find thirty (30) there.”

31 And he said, “Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak to the Lord: Perhaps there will be twenty (20) found there.” And He said,

“I will not destroy it for twenty’s (20) sake.”

32 And he said, “Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Perhaps ten (10) will be found there.” And He said,

“I will not destroy it for ten’s (10) sake.”

33 And the LORD went His way, as soon as He had finished communing with Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place.

The Curse of the Thief

I n the middle of audit week, our company accountants decided not to show up. As it turned out, they embezzled some money. What struck me the most was that the people who did it were not strangers; they were like mothers and aunts. We saw them almost every day, smile at them, laugh with them, and made plans together. As part of the management team, we ate out and had a friendly good time. It was heartbreaking to realize that the people in the news for some criminal activity had the same profile as those that I had warm and cuddly relations with. But loyalty goes up. My love for God supersedes any other relationship. I feel sad, yes, but I have no inkling to cover for them. If anything, I am upset because I was this close to them, and yet, clueless. My colleagues and I were mixed emotions. On one hand, we felt betrayed. The suspects were like family. We confided in them and planned activities with them in all sincerity and warmth. But maybe, just maybe, they were truthful and sincere...

Worldwide Cleansing

And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. 3 And the Lord said, “My Spirit will not always strive with man, for that he is also flesh; yet his days will be a hundred and twenty (120) years.”  4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. 5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it regretted the Lord that He had made man on the earth, and it grieved Him at His heart. 7 And the Lord said, “ I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and th...

Now I Know

#Prov7   I have seen    a young man lacking sense (v7) And behold, the woman meets him (v10)    and with bold face she says to him, (v13) "Come, let us take our fill of love till morning;     let us delight ourselves with love…" (v18)   All at once he follows her,     as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a stag is caught fast     till an arrow pierces its liver; as a bird rushes into a snare;     he does not know that it will cost him his life. (v22-23)   Little did he know that…   Many a victim has she laid low,     and all her slain are a mighty throng. Her house is the way to Sheol,     going down to the chambers of death. (v.26-27)   We already know that sexual sins and immorality is for men and women, that though the Proverbs text was written to sym...

Our FATHER Can Easily Bless Us With A Baby

Then the LORD said, “I will surely return to you at this time next year, and your wife Sarah will have a son!” So she laughed to herself, saying, “After I am worn out and my master is old, will I now have this pleasure?” And the LORD asked Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Can I really bear a child when I am old?’ Is anything too difficult for the LORD? At the appointed time I will return to you—in about a year—and Sarah will have a son.”   [ Genesis 18:10, 12-14 BSB]   Nothing Is Too Hard For The Lord   This is the first time that God declared the statement “Nothing is too hard for the Lord,” and it involved having a baby. The Lord repeated Himself in this same way to Mary concerning Elizabeth’s pregnancy, and it was also about having a baby. (see Luke 1:36-38) It’s amazing to know that God measured His ability in this way – in the manner of granting babies. The Lord does not treat it lightly when we laugh at what He is able to do. For God ...

John 4

the king version   Therefore, when the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, 2  (though Jesus Himself baptized not, but His disciples),  3  He left Judea and departed again into Galilee, 4  and He must and needs # to go through Samaria.  5  Then He comes # to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. 6  Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus, therefore, being wearied with His journey, sat thus on the well; and it was about the sixth (6 th ) hour.  7  There comes # a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus says # to her,  “Give Me some to drink.”  8  (For His disciples had gone away to the city to buy meat.) [1]   9  Then says # the woman of Samaria to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask to drink from me, who is a woman of Samaria?” For the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans....

Merry Christ-day, everyone!

I thank the Lord for my salvation. God planned to save me by coming to earth in human form. He knows and understands every iota of my being because He became a man just like me. On this Christmas season, I celebrate Christ-day, the coming of my Savior and King. I remember how He was  birthed in my spirit , and brought about my own rebirth. I am so glad to be born again! In His first coming as a baby, all the heavens and nature sang.  (Luke 2:13-14)  The whole angelic host was one massive choir rejoicing in God’s plan of salvation and peace for all mankind. But the next time He returns, the Second Coming, those same angels will be clad for war.  (Revelations 19:14) That’s why now, in this Period of Grace, we should affirm our allegiance to the King of kings, to Him who was born to save us from our sins and misery, to Him who was born to die on our place for the punishment we so deserve. What a gracious act of redemption! “Yes, it is true I am a king...

The Christmas of Mangers and Feeding Boxes

A manger is a cattle's feeding box The cliché: Jesus was born in a manger. As a city boy, I find it cruel to know that someone has to give birth or be born in such gruesome conditions. I thought even homeless folks could go to a public hospital for that. But as it was, this happened to Joseph and Mary, and the baby boy Jesus. Background: The first census mandated everyone to go back to their hometowns for registration. Mary was already on her 9th month - on her 40th week, due for labor. And yet, they have got to go and obey the decree. I guess disobedience would be fatal. But don't pregnant women hurt themselves when they travel out for a long time? Either way was fatal. Mary just sat there, on a camel or a donkey, and she would feel those birth pains, and it was aggravated by the bumps on the way. It would have been hot by day, and cold at night. And still they went. How far was it then? How many straight hours or days did it take?   Each bump is a discomfort ...

Strap On Your Bible-Sword

There was the true story of Aaron when ·        he casted a golden calf, and the ·        the people had gone wild - much to the shame of their enemies.   And Moses asked who was on the Lord's side. And to the Levites who rallied to him, he commanded to strap on their swords. (see Exo 32)   Today, in our world, we still strap on our swords, that is, the Bible. In this age of grace, it is not a letter that kills, but one that brings life. We have new marching orders: restoration and reconciliation in the Lord.   Yes, strap your swords - wield the Bible wisely, and win the erring brother over from the dark side.   Our Lord Jesus puts it this way:   If your brother sins against you, go and confront him privately. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by ...

Acts 6

the king version     And in those days when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration [1] . 2  Then the Twelve (12) called the multitude of the disciples unto them and said, “It is not reasonable [2] that we should leave the Word of God and serve tables. 3  Therefore [3] , brethren, you [4] look out among yourselves [5] for seven (7) men of honest report, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. 4  But we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the Word.” 5  And the saying pleased the whole multitude. And they chose    Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit,    and Philip    and Prochorus    and Nicanor,    and Timon    and Parmenas    and Nicolas, a proselyte of Antioch, 6  whom...
